Educational Testing Service (ETS) developed the TOEFL® Junior™ test for the English language learning needs of students in middle school. The TOEFL Junior test is the newest addition to ETS's TOEFL family of products.

Introducing the TOEFL Junior Test

The TOEFL Junior test is a low-stakes assessment that measures the degree to which middle school students have attained proficiency in the academic and social English-language skills representative of English-medium instructional environments.

While the ETS university-level TOEFL tests continue to set the standard for the measurement of English proficiency worldwide, the TOEFL Junior test is a more appropriate assessment for middle school students. The TOEFL Junior test is a general English proficiency assessment that is not based on/limited to any specific curriculum. It’s designed to measure listening comprehension, language form and meaning, and reading comprehension. The TOEFL Juniortest serves as a general progress measure to give schools, teachers, parents and students an objective measure of the test takers' English-language progress.

The TOEFL Junior test can:

• Provide parents and educators with objective information about student progress in developing English-language skills over time.
• Serve as a comprehensive measurement that can be used to help support the placement of students into programs designed to increase English proficiency levels.
